Sum's Kitchen & Hong Kong Roasted Meat

Sunday family dinner at Sum's Kitchen. This restaurant serve excellent Hong Kong style roast duck & zi char dishes. I chance upon this restaurant sometimes ago while I was dining at White Bee Hoon. Went back and check out the reviews from Hungry Go Where. It was given a rather high rating so I have bookmarked it in my "What's next..." list, planning to visit them soon.

Last Sunday, went there with uncle's family. All the dishes we ordered were quite good and tasty except for the Spinach in 3 eggs which was quite bland & tasteless. Among them my favourite would be the roast duck, taste fantastic, skin was crispy and meat was tender & tasty. The steam Song fishhead w/olive was fresh and the sauce was delicious. Another of my favourite was the steam minced pork w/salted fish, it was so good with rice. The 5 of us paid about $70.00 for the meal which I find it pretty reasonable and value for money.

Roast Duck - S$12.00

Steamed Song Fishhead w/Olive - S$18.00

Steamed Minced Pork w/Salted Fish - S$6.00

Deep Fried Squid w/pepper salt - S$10.00

Spinach in 3 Eggs - S$8.00

Soup of the day: Choko w/Pork Ribs Soup - S$9.00

Just Dessert By Daniel Tay

Have been eyeing on this recipe book for awhile and since will be signed by the author personally so decided to get it when attending Chef Daniel class last Saturday. There are a few interesting recipes that I love to try and also some Bakerzin's popular cakes like Strawberry Shortcake & Fraisier.

Bread For The Home Baker 3 By Daniel Tay

Last Saturday, attended a bread making workshop at Shermay's. Hosted by Pastry Chef Daniel Tay. He was cheerful and jovial, cracking jokes on and off to make the class more lively and interesting. He was not only detailed but also seriously keen in teaching us the method and theory of bread making. Bread making was really very complex and sometimes think about it might as well spent a few dollars and just get it from bakery shop. Though I don't think I will be making bread often, still prefer making cakes but really enjoyed his class so I sign up for his next bread class in Aug 09.

Assorted Soft Bun

Traditional Pizza

This was baked using the pizza oven napoli, it was surprisingly yummy and almost similar to those that was baked from brick oven. Really authentic and impressive.

Kreativ Blogger Award

Received a surprise blogger award last week! Passed to me by Passionate About Baking and Happy Flour. Thank you so much for giving me this award even though we don't know each other. Actually I'm still a novice in blogging and baking. I have so much to learn from both of you and others too. By the way, this is my first award and I will always cherish it!

The Kreativ Blogger Award comes with some rules:
1. You must thank the person who has given you the award.
2. Copy the logo and place it on your blog.
3. Link to the person who has nominated you for the award.
4. Name 7 things about yourself that people might find interesting.
5. Nominate 7 other Kreativ Bloggers.
6. Post links to the 7 blogs you nominate.
7. Leave a comment on each of the blogs to let them know that they have been nominated.

Now, let me talk about 7 funny eating habits of mine instead of the usual stuff where most already knew from reading my blogs.

1. I don't take prawns unless it was coated with batter to deep fry like tempura or prawn fritters.
2. I don't like potatoes but I like french fry! I eat curry without potatoes.
3. I don't like yam cooked in any kind except yam cake.
3. I don't like satay, rojak and mee siam. Am I Singaporean??? lol!
4. I eat dumplings but I will always dig out the chestnut.
5. I hate all kinds preserved tibits especially sour plum "xuan mei"! Really dislike!
6. Other than a taxi queen, I'm also a maggi mee queen. Serious? yes... Whenever I'm on vacation, I will definitely buy their local instant noodles. I like those from Hongkong and Taiwan.
7. I love pepper crab but recently I noticed I'm allergy to pepper crab! Really don't understand why too. But I can take it when it was cooked in other ways.

Anybody has the same eating habits as me??

I was thinking who should I pass this award to? I seldom interact with other bloggers except Anita from HHB. Anyway, I will just choose 7 of my fav blogs.

1. Humble Home Baker
2.
Baking Mum
3.
Cuisine Paradise
4.

5.

Blackforest Tiramisu

It's Sandra's birthday last Wednesday. With my tight working schedules, I still managed to make a cake for her as I really don't wish to disappoint her. She's always the one who coordinated and went to get the birthday gifts for the girls in my office. Now's her birthday, we must show some appreciation right! So I made something I'm familiar with and that's Tiramisu. Also because the birthday girl liked my tiramisu very much.

Why Blackforest Tiramisu??? Oh, I decorated it liked a blackforest cake so I named it Blackforest Tiramisu!

Everyone enjoyed the cake very much especially the man in my office as I put quite a lot of Kahlua.

Actually wanted to celebrate cousin's birthday here but she's more interested in sushi & sashimi. So we went back on our own to Central again last Tues (21/7/09) to have Ramen. I had eaten it 2 years ago when it just started and this was my 2nd time. There's always a long queue outside the shop. We waited for awhile for our table but the serving was pretty fast. Since I never been to Japan before so I believe this was so far the best ramen that I had before.

Ramen w/egg - S$13.00
Excellent rich chicken broth and noodles. The egg was very good too, so tasty... I like the fried sliced garlic too, complimented the soup & ramen so well.

Aka Ramen w/egg - S$16.00

7 kinds of nuts was added to the soup base and was a bit spicy. This was served with chicken balls but we still preferred the pork belly. To compare, I still prefer the Chicken broth Ramen.
Char Siew - 4 pcs at S$6.00

I always remember the char siew was good so we ordered 2 portions. If you don't take fatty meat then this is not for you as the char siew has a layer of fat.

Prima Deli

It's Eric birthday on 20th Jul 09 (one of my co's director) and the cake was prepared by the HR for him. A Blackforest Classic from Prima Deli. Chocolate sponge cake with succulent dark cherries and fresh cream.

Happy Birthday Eric!

Katong Sin Chew Cakeshop

Famous for their curry bun according to my boss which I don't really understand why? And it's rather expensive at S$1.20 each. This type of bun probably you can get it at $0.80 each from the market hawker stall. Maybe I don't know how to appreciate... Last Monday (20/7/09) went out with my boss for lunch and the cakeshop was just beside it. She bought almost 25 pcs back to office for my other colleagues.

BBQ Wholesale Centre

It's a surprise BBQ birthday party for my cousin secretly arranged and coordinated by her boyfriend. We were told to just be there on time last Sunday, 19/7/09. All BBQ items were ordered from BBQ Wholesale Centre. A one-stop shop that take the hassle out of you from the preparation work of organising a BBQ. They have simply everything! You name it they have it, really very convenient and surprisingly not very costly too.

All fresh & raw items were nicely sealed & freezed in a box as show above. The beef steak was quite nice, probably added quite a bit of tenderizer. Large black pepper prawn was fresh and nice but the shelless prawn w/hawaiian glaze was not so good, too sweet. Satay was ok and the sauce was nice too but need to heat it up. As for the stingray, the chilli tasted like nasi lemak chilli so not that fantastic. There were 3 types of chicken wings, my fav was the oriental mid wing. Sausages were good quality type but the bacon too artificial.

The cooked food... the fried mee and korean rice roll (my recipe) were prepared by her boyfriend's family.

Well, overall the quality of the BBQ food were all quite acceptable and definitely value for money. I think is about S$15/pax averagely for the above type of food. It's definitely worth it as you can enjoy the evening better without going through the hassle of marketing and preparing the food which is quite exhausting.
