Cafebiz @ Traders Hotel

A high-tea gathering with office colleagues at Cafebiz in Traders Hotel. With a nice cosy ambience and good company, the food seem to taste better too. Though the varieties were not many still you can never try everything but most of the food were yummy. Especially the local delight like laksa, chicken rice, roast pork, roast duck & congee, all are quite nice.

Weekend high-tea @ S$35.00++ per pax (12.30pm to 4pm), with UOB promotion - 1 free with 2 paying, it's quite value for money. Also, inclusive of free flow of coffee & tea. However, the replenishing of food and clearing of plates were rather inefficient that day. Probably due to lack of manpower and it was really packed on a Sat afternoon. Anyway, still an enjoyable meal!

Japanese - Sashimi & Sushi

Appetizers

2 type of soup - Asian (assorted mushroom & seafood soup) & Western (Tomato soup)
I only tried the tomato soup. It was yummy and really appetizing. Also, a few type of bread to choose from. I made myself some garlic toast.

Local Delight
The chicken rice was really very good and also the kueh pietee was good too.

The rojak was DIY by me and was not very well received maybe I put too much paste, too sweet. Anyway I don't take rojak so how can I do it right. Hahaha!

Laksa, very popular among us. Nice! There's black & white carrot cake too but doesn't look appealing so no one bother to try.

Asian Cuisines Kong Bak Pau & Roti prata. I didn't try this, according to my colleague the prata was ok but the kong bak pau was not so nice. They also served naan but they didn't replenish it when I wanted some.

Beef ramen - not very nice, the soup was bland and the noodles too soggy.
Roast pork & duck - Good! They also have roast chicken but one of us don't take chicken so we omit it.
Congee - One of our favourite, we all love the smooth & thick texture.
Western Delight

The mash potatoes w/truffle oil was really good. Lamb shank & Fish & chips were yummy too.

Dessert

The dessert spread was quite good too and my favourite was mango pudding, waffle ice cream & chocolate mousse cake.

Fruit & Salad
This section varieties are quite limited and none of us touch on the salad.

Barcook Bakery @ Hong Lim

Finally get to try this really soft and irresistable Cheese & Raisin bread (S$1.30 ea) from Hong Lim where you have to q to get it. Of course, I never went to q for it... I asked my brother to get some for me when he dropped by my place last week. As he is staying in that area so he knew when is the off peak hour to go grab this bread. It's a pity I can't try it fresh from the oven but it's still taste great even I ate it the next day. It's soft and filled with tasty cream cheese and is rather similar to the cheese bun at Provence Bakery at Holland Village. However will these be another short term crave like the coffeeboy, bubble tea or pork floss bun? Well, only times will tell... but at least I tried before!

Durian Chiffon Cake

Tried out this recipe given to me by AK. Sorry to say that this recipe cannot be shared without her permission. Durian Chiffon Cake using fresh durian and coconut milk! A wonderful combination so definitely is yummy! As my aunt bought lots of durian so I baked 2 cakes, one in a new heart shape chiffon mould I just got it from Elyn of e's joie and the other one using my usual 22cm chiffon mould.

Durian Chiffon Cake

I also bought this stadter and chiffon knife from e's joie.

Aunt's BD - Peach Garden @ Novena Garden

It's Aunt birthday. My younger brother, Dax gave her a treat at Peach Garden @ Novena Garden. We had ala buffet dinner at S$38.00++ per pax (with UOB promotion - 1 dine free with 3 paying). The menu has about 31 items and we had tried most of it except for some soup, fish and chicken dishes we left out. The food was generally decent but only a few really stand out. Actually my expectation is much higher. To really compare, they served better food than the one at Thomson Plaza but still not impressive enough. I think Tung Lok at Paramount Hotel serve a better ala buffet than them.

We started off with our 1st round of ordering and they actually served all the food right away. It's really irritate me as before you actually settle down to have some tea and starts off with appetiser, your table already filled with all the dishes. We requested them to slow down the serving but they refused!!! The waitress said because it's a buffet, that's why... but is an ala carte what??? I think most of it are precooked and some of the food served was not piping hot. With this kind of price that we are paying, I rather pay a bit more for Cherry Garden. However, some of their dishes do stand out.
