Tang Dian Wang Shanghai Restaurant

Tang Dian Wang, attracted by the glamourous decor & ambience, thus decided to have our dinner there on Friday.

Crunchy Golden Mushroom - S$7.80

Golden mushroom coated with crispy & light batter. A nice snack and the portion was really big, enough for 6.

Golden Crisp Salted Fish & Minced Pork Pancake - S$9.80

The inside was juicy and the outside was crispy. Quite tasty but a bit oily. Again, the portion was big too, 8 big slices but ate more than one slice a bit 'jerlard'.

Pork Dumplings in Sichuan Chilli Oil - S$4.50

This dish was not as expected. I thought the dumpling supposed to soak in red spicy chilli oil but this was like soaking in black vinegar instead.

Chicken with Fragrant Chives & Onions - S$9.80

The chicken was dry, tough and bland. Disappointed as this was their signature dish but the accompanied chives and onions greenish sauce was quite nice.

Steamed Egg Tofu w/Baby Clams - S10.80

The egg tofu was smooth but the seasoning was a bit bland and would prefer the sauce to be more savoury than sweet.

Braised Chinese Cabbage w/Ginko Nuts & Dried Scallop - S$8.80

Thumb up for this. The sauce was rich and flavourful. All of us liked this very much.

Simmered Bee Hoon with Roasted Duck & Runny Egg - S$9.80

This was quite nicely done and very homecooked style. The stock was flavourful with runny egg added that made the beehoon very smooth. Nice. The portion was enough for 2-3 pax.

Slice Grouper Congee - S$9.80

This was more porridge than congee. My family liked this but I would prefer it to be more fine and watery like the cantonese style. Taste was ok and japanese purple sweet potatoes were added.

Double Egg Fried Rice - S$7.80

The fried rice was nice. Salted fish was added to give a richer taste but a bit oily.

The pricing and ambience are good. The food are served in rather big portion so do not over ordered. We seem to have over-ordered and generally the food was so so only. But, the soup and lotus rice seem nice, maybe next time we will be back to try.

My New Love...

Finally got my new digital camera -
Canon Powershot SX200 IS
Main features: 12.1 megal pixel, 12x optical zoom, scene detection technology

Previously, I was using Canon digital IXUS 750 (7MP) and always felt that my pictures were not sharp & bright. So glad that Aunt bought this for me and we got it at a rather good price at Sim Lim Square. I've chosen the black one more professional ma...lol! Some may feel that this was a bit bulky but still so much smaller than a DSLR. Maybe my next target will be DSLR... For now this is good enough for me and I'm completely please with this camera.

Canele Patisserie Chocolaterie

Whenever I passed by Canele, I just can't stop myself from stepping in to buy some takeaway cakes home. There are so many to choose from and I wish I can try all of them... I chosen 2 that I never tried before. Macha, one of their Signature Collection & Raspberry Cheesecake from Collection 2009.

The "macha" is deliciously yummy! Even my aunt who don't fancy cake like it too. A combination of green tea mascarpone mousse, chestnut cream and green tea sponge cake, with biscuit almond crumb. Perfectly complimenting each other in flavour. I like it very much.

This was not bad too. The base cake is almost similar to brownie top with very smooth vanilla cheesecake galzed with raspberry jelly and rosemary-infused creme chantilly. Yum yum as I simply love raspberry!

White Chocolate Raspberry Cake

It's my colleague Lily's birthday, made this cake for her. Learnt this cake from Big Boys Oven's workshop weeks ago and has been listed in my baking list. Layers of Valrhona white chocolate mousse, raspberry puree and vanilla sponge. A very creamy & milky indulgence... Hope she like the cake!

Happy Birthday Lily!

Weekend Ala Carte Brunch at Jing

My cousin celebrated Father's Day with my uncle at Jing. So we are invited to go along too. Reservation was made weeks ago for this lunch. Jing is the 2nd branch of Majestic Restaurant lead by Award wining Chef Yong Bing Ngen. It's Father day, so expected to be fully booked and crowded. The first and 2nd round of ordering were quite prompt and efficient but later when the restaurant started to fill up, our orders started to slow down and 2 of it were not served. The ambience was quite nice but aircon was not cooling enough and I actually felt quite warmed. My personal preference will still be Cherry Garden in terms of food and services eventhough you have to pay at least S$10.00 more. However, overall was still a pleasant dining experience and definitely value for money.

There are more than 60 items in the menu and we managed to try about half of it. Certain items were quite commendable while others were just normal. Those highlighted in colour were my personal favourites. There were too many items we tried so just let my pictures speak for themselves.
