Hong Lim Food Centre is a 2 storey hawker centre located at Upper Cross Street near Chinatown. You can find lots of good food in this place. With family visited this food heaven for lunch on one of my non working Saturday. We tried out 3 of the most popular and highly recommended noodles stalls. Let's check it out ...

Tuck Kee Ipoh Sah Ho Fun
德记怡保沙河粉
#02-04
Crayfish Prawn Chicken Horfun
One of the best Ipoh hor fun I have tasted in Singapore. The sauce is nicely infused with the flavour of prawn and crayfish. The hor fun texture is good, smooth and springy. Quality ingredients are used, big and plump prawn, fresh crayfish and tender shredded chicken thigh meat. Thumb up!
This stall is definitely worth queuing for and be prepared to queue for at least 15 mins. The only complaint I have is the disposable plate, if only they don't use that.
Ah Kow Mushroom Minced Pork Mee
亚九正庄香菇肉脞面

Mushroom Minced Pork Mee Pok
This stall has been around for generation if I can recall. The first time I chanced upon them was at Hill Street Food Centre more than 10 years ago, introduced to me by my ex-boss who's claimed it to be his favourite bak chor mee in Singapore. They had since relocated to Hong Lim after Hill Street was gone. It is still popular judging from the long queue.
The dried noodles comes with minced pork, sliced pork, a dumpling and some stewed mushroom. Something very authentic is a slice of fried sole fish was added. I always love to have mee pok, flavoured with sambal chilli, black vinegar and lard. The noodle is nice but still don't taste as good as it used to be, slightly above average.

Curry Chicken Mee
This is another popular stall that you need to queue too, recommended by my brother.
A hearty bowl of curry noodles, the curry sauce is just right not too rich and thick. Worth trying!
Golden Shoes Wu Xiang Xia Bing
金鞋区五香虾饼
#02-61
One of Singaporean favourite hawker delight - Wu Xiang. We ordered it as a side dish to share. As usual, I always find that they tend to overcharge. I think we paid more than $12 for this. I don't think is value for money.
The prawn and beansprout fritters are quite nice though...
Do drop me a comment if you have any nice food to recommend in Hong Lim Food Centre...!

Wow! The prawn chicken horfan looks good and value for money, only $4.00! I wanna try their clayfish horfan! love it
ReplyDeleteI agree, I go to this place often, it's loaded with good stuff.
ReplyDeleteUpper Cross Street eh? Must KIV this place. I loved those old hawker centres - wet market downstairs, hawker centre upstairs. Hot, stuffy, not comfortable...but they have the best food around. Cheaper too than at all those pretentious so-called kopitiam food courts. Used to go to the one at Cuppage Centre, Orchard long long ago...but they've closed it down...
ReplyDeleteAnd ooooo....I miss those dried noodles with minced pork and whatever. One of my old-time Singapore coffee shop favourites. Yummmmmm!!!!!
