Kok Sen Restaurant

Two weeks ago (1/9/09), we had dinner at this nice zi char place at Keong Siak Road. Kok Sen Restaurant situated in a coffee shop served typical local zi char dishes, their signature dishes include home-made yong tau foo, prawn paste chicken, big prawn bee hoon soup, black bean paste fishheads w/bittergoud etcs. We like their cooking, almost all the dishes we ordered that night were pretty tasty & all with very good 'wok hei' which are rather vital in chinese cooking.

Deep Fried Crispy Pomfret w/Sambal

The pomfret was deep fried till crisp & the sambal sauce used lots of assam & pork lard to cook so it was appetizing & tasty. However, my brother felt that the sambal was a bit too overwhelming would prefer the fish to be steamed instead especially when it was so fresh.

Spring Onion & Ginger Frog Legs

This was good so tasty...

Prawn Paste Chicken

Their signature dish, though a common dish for zi char but their's do stand out and I think is one of the best I tasted so far.

Claypot Tofu w/Seacucumber
This was normal, nothing to rave about.

Soupy Chinese Spinach w/2 types of Eggs
This vegetable dish has become very popular lately where most of the zi char served it but not many are good. Surprisingly, their's was really good, the stock was very rich and yummy.

Stir Fry You Mai w/Fermented Tofu Sauce

This is our fav veg and we always cook it at home too, it was very nicely stir fry and the sauce was very very tasty. Yummmmmm....We really enjoyed their food very much, very cantonese style and definitely a great place for zi char. The waiting time was pretty short too even though it's always crowded. Definitely will list them under one of our fav place for zi char.
