On the eve of the Chinese Lunar New Year, every family would gather together to have a wonderful meal at home or in restaurants. This is known as the reunion dinner and is the most important family meal for the Chinese. This year we had steamboat at home for our reunion dinner.
The preparation of the dinner started early in the morning. While aunt was busying in the kitchen, I was decorating the house for CNY. All ready to welcome the Year of Dragon by noon, then I joined my aunt in the dinner preparation.
Steamboat Reunion Dinner @ 2012
Steamboat seem to be the easiest to prepare but actually still quite time consuming as lots of cutting and plating required. Let see what we had prepared for our steamboat...
My aunt's superior stock (recipe), added Fish Maw and Fish Balls.
Large Sea Prawns from Indo / Fresh Scallops
Sliced Fish / Cured Cuttlefish / Razor Clams / Squids
Wagyu Beef / Assorted Shellfish (Abalone, Pacific Clam & Locos)
Pork Kidney / Pork Small Intestine / Pork Liver / Black Pig Shabu Shabu
Handmade Meat Balls and Sotong Balls from Hong Lim / Pigeon Eggs / Fried Yam
Assorted Vegetables (Chinese Cabbage, Spinach, Lettuce) / Assorted Mushrooms (Shimeji, Abalone & Golden Mushrooms)
Prosperity Pot / Golden Prawn Fritters (will be posting the recipes in another post)
Dessert for the evening...
Snow Jelly with red dates & lotus seed
Cheesecakes (Pining for you) @ The Patissier
So what do you have for your reunion dinner...? Hope you have enjoyed your reunion dinner too...!
