A dinner date with 2 ex-colleagues at Wavve. Wavve Grill & Chill is located at Toa Payoh just right beside Flavvors, under the Febulous group of restaurants. Is the first and only restaurant with pub in Toa Payoh serving Western cuisine specialises in grill meat and seafoods. The restaurant ambiance is quite cool with dim lighting, brightened up a bit by the colourful featured lighting on a side of the wall. Overall ambiance is largely enhanced by the live band entertainment in the evening. A nice place to chill out for a drink after work. I think they are rather popular among the working classes from HDB Hub which is just next door.
Service is very good and attentive though they made a mistake on my steak doneness. The food didn't really impress much but are generally quite decent with reasonable pricing. I really like the idea of having such a kind of restaurant in a neighbourhood area like Toa Payoh. Toa Payoh is probably one of the most boring one around as compared to the other part of Singapore where there are usually shopping centres. Now, enough of my rantings! Let's see what we had ordered that evening... We started off with sharing a salad and 2 of their signature soups.
Wavve signature creation - Romaine lettuce tossed with slices of fresh orange, black raisins and roasted walnuts and served with Purple Cider Dressing. This was quite light and refreshing.
Grandma's Potato & Bacon Chowder - S$5.90++
A thick, cream-based soup flavoured with onion, leek, potato and smokehouse bacon bits. Is a very flavourful, rich and creamy soup. If you like creamy soup, this should be good though a bit salty.
Mushroom Cappuccino - S$5.90++
Like cappuccino, foamy at the top and creamy at the base. Made from fresh shitake and button mushrooms blended in vegetable broth. This is not as creamy and surprisingly flavourful though vegetable broth was used. A better choice to the bacon chowder.
Rosemary BBQ Chicken Thigh - S$13.90++
BY choice of main choice. Deboned chicken thigh char grilled with special rosemary sauce and served with mashed potatoes and coleslaw. I tried some and I quite like it. The chicken was grilled to perfection with a nice smokey fragrant and the sauce was very tasty too which complimented the chicken and potatoes well.
Pan Seared Salmon - S$16.90++
CY had this. A thick cut of Norwegian salmon served with Carribean salsa. According to her, the salmon was abit overdone but the salsa was pretty appetizing.
Royal Fillet Mignon 180g - S$29.90++
I'm craving for steak for weeks so I decided to try their signatiure steak and also one of the most expensive main course on the menu. A royal cut of grilled prime beef served with medallion of special herb butter on top and complimented with fluffy mashed potatoes and greens. However, I was quite disappointed with it as it was not done to medium rare as requested but well done. Anyway I also never highlighted to them as the steak was still quite tender though a bit dry. It would be perfect if it was medium rare as the quality of the beef was really good.
Crepes Suzette (flambe) - S$10.90++
Zesty orange and lemon crepes flamed with Grand Marnier orange sauce. A refreshing warm dessert that was prepared in front of us by the chef. The crepe texture was nice, thin and chewy that went well with the zesty orange sauce.
Andrew's Unbeatable Pick Me Up "Tiramisu" - S$8.90++
I have high expectation for Tiramisu so this one was not really nice, very ordinary and a tad dry.
