Korea/Jeju Trip @ May 2011 - Day 6

Day 6 - 22 May 2011

A shopping day at Seoul! Before checking out to make our way to the city of Seoul, we had our breakfast at the hotel cafe. We had buffet breakfast again...actually quite tired of it already. That's the trap of joining tour, you don't get to choose what to eat...!

Breakfast at Resom Spa Castle

Strawberry Farm

Korea is also very famous for their strawberry. We were entitled to pick 6 strawberries but some of us eat as we pick...lol! Cheating! They have homemade strawberry jam for sales too. The jam was quite yummy!

Korean Ginseng is hailed as the world's best ancient tonic elixir and staminar builder where every Korean is very proud of this product and most of them consume it regularly. I didn't buy as it was so expensive but helped a friend to buy! If you are interested to get some, be prepared to pay at least $500-$1000 for a full course of treatment. My uncle recently has high blood sugar level and was told that this ginseng can help so he bought $2000 plus worth of ginseng powder and capsules! However I think you have to consume on a daily basis for a period of time to see the effect.

Lunch - Liu-Huang Duck 大長今硫磺鴨

Liu Huang Duck - this dish became famous after the Korean drama Dae Jang Geum. It contains duck, vegetable and mushroom. A light tasting soup that we enjoyed and was served with bibimbap and several side dishes.

Cosmetics & facial products are one of the must buy things in Korea. Next we proceed to Nature Republic where we were given a skin care course.  A marketing tactic they used to introduce their Odbo products where are only available in Korea. When comes to facial care, every ladies in our group bought like nobody business...lol! Look at the red luggages, every 500,000 won (approx SGD600) entitle to one.

Sinchon Fashion Alley

Another popular shopping street in Korea and also home to three universities, Ewha, Sogang and Yonsei. This area is jam-packed with cafes, eateries, bars, night clubs, movies theatres, beauty salon and boutiques selling apparel and fashion accessories. The pricing here is generally cheaper than in Myongdong as the main crowd here are students.

Dinner - Chuncheon Dalkgalbi

It's dinner time again! We had dalkgalbi in a local restaurant in Sinchon. This is really yummy! Pieces of spicy marinated chicken, rice cake, cabbage, sweet potato, green onions. rice cake and sweet potato stir fry in a iron pan. Half way through, rice will be added to fry together! Looks rather messy but is really very delicious! I like it so much that I try to cook it at home...lol!

Dongdaemun is one of the largest and best shopping district in Korea where there are numerous wholesales centres and retails shop to let you shop through out the night even over midnight. If you are going on free and easy, choose a hotel in this area! Among all the shopping complex, Doota is the most interesting as it showcases the latest fashion designed by local young fashion designers. It closed at 5am in the morning except for Sunday at 11pm. The Koreans love dogs too, saw 2 beautiful doggies outside Doota and couldn't help not to snap photos of them...lol!

Some of the other popular shopping area like apM & Migliore are quite interesting too. There is a live open stage outside Migliore where at times there will be impromptu talent contests with contestants from the audience and prizes will be given. This usually attracts lots of teenagers who wish to be singers willingly went up to perform. Maybe somedays some agents will approach them if they have potential.

After a long day of shopping, it's time to rest! We checked into Lotte Hotel World Seoul where is linked to Lotte World Themepark which we will be visiting the next day. We will be staying here till the end of the trip. We were very thrilled to be given the Character rooms where only available on 2 levels of the hotel.

Character Room Lift Lobby

We were so thrilled like kids that we forgotten our tiredness! We just left our luggages on the corridor and snapped photos non-stop for almost half an hour...lol!

Character Twin Room

The room has been designed under the theme of Lotty and Lorry, the lovable mascots of Lotte World Adventure. Some of the rooms can have full view of Lotte World indoor themepark. Just imagined we slept here for 2 nights...!  Everythings are so fun, cute and cosy!

Character Room Accessories

Every corners are filled with Lotty and Lorry character products! Love the toiletries too, all from L'occitane!

Stay tune for my updates on Day 7 of the trip where we will be at Everland!

  4. Your photo collages look really nice. They tell the stories very nicely. Many many years ago, I attended Ewha Women's University and hung out a lot in the Shinchon area. Back then we didn't have all those stores and restaurants. When I went back many years after, I was shocked to see how the area changed over the years. Thanks for bringing back my memories.

  6. Hi, I've been desperately searching for information on strawberry farms. Do you have the name of the strawberry farm? Also, some people told me strawbeery season is over in May but I noticed that you went in May right?
