Jin Long Seafood Restaurant

21st Feb 2010

A CNY dinner treat by my younger brother, an annual affair too and this restaurant was recommended by my elder brother. Jin Long used to be a coffee shop zi char but has transformed into a nicely renovated with air-con, modern interior & uniform crews classic Chinese restaurant though still situated at the ground level of HDB flat. No complaint for the food which are generally pretty good but serving portion was rather small for some of the dishes. Price wise quite reasonable except for the Yu Sheng we had that evening which all of us felt was overpriced. Total bill was about S$330 plus for the 9 of us, if without the Yu Sheng it was quite value for money. Overall, the dinner was good and service was quite alright too. By the way, if you bring your own wine or liquor, corkage is free. Thank you Dax for the treat and I'm looking forward to next year already...lol!

Yu Sheng

My third "Lo hei" for the year 2010 CNY. Personally I don't really like to eat this just for the fun of it. We felt that this was overpriced. For S$48 per set, only a few very thin slices of fish (not even salmon fish) and the fresh vegetables only shredded carrot. Usually there should be a mixture of radish & cucumber.

Shark Fin Soup

Very rich and flavourful broth but portion was small. Almost not enough to distribute to 9 of us.

Braised Duck with Sea Cucumbers

My favourite dish of the day. Very nicely braised and the sauce was to die for. It was so tasty! This was one of their signature dish.

Crispy Squids

Very tasty and appetizing too. The sauce tasted like rojak.

Steam Grouper

Very fresh and not overcooked but the sauce was too little.

Prawns in Cream Sauce

This was too sweet for our liking and some of us find the taste a bit weird.

Braised Cabbage in 8 Treasures

Thumb up for this! Another signature dish but a pity the portion was small too.

Fried Mee Sua

Quite nice with good wok hei but a bit bland as compared to the above dishes.

Yam Paste

Very good too and not overly sweet.
