The Paramount Restaurant

9th April 2010

It's a farewell dinner for one of my colleagues. We went for the Ala Carte buffet dinner at The Paramount Restaurant which is under Tung Lok Group. Chosen this restaurant mainly because it's near our workplace and also I remember they served a good spread of nice Cantonese cuisine. I had tried this ala carte buffet several times in the past with my family before I started this blog. The buffet is value for money and offer rather nice quality food. A group of 8 so we were able to try more than half the items on the menu. Out of the 48 items, we manage to touch on 28 of them. Service is very good and attentive while the wait for the food was short too. Though the food was only average generally but we had a great evening of fun at the restaurant's private dinning room which I made prior reservation the week before. Great place for big group gathering.

Ala Carte Buffet
Monday to Sunday
Adult @ S$33.80++
Child (Below 10 yrs) @ S$23.80++
Minimum Four Persons
Menu

A. Chef's Special Recommendation
1. Mini Buddha Jump Over The Wall (Limited to one serving per person)

Not much ingredients in the soup and tasted more like thick chicken broth but my colleagues like it.

2. Beijing Roasted Duck
(Served with Spring Onion, Cucumber & Sweet Sauce)
(Limited to two slices per person)

Quite nice.

3. Live Prawns (Limited to 100g per person)
a. Poached Live Prawns
b. Deep-fried Prawns with Oats and Butter

Very fresh.

B. Japanese Cuisine
4. Salmon Sashimi
5. California Maki

The california maki was a delight.

C. Cold Cut and Appetizer
6. Pan-fried Chive Dumpling
7. Crispy Vietnamese Spring Rolls

Crispy and piping hot fried items were usually well received.

8. Mini Octopus
9. Barbecued Combination

Mini octopus was a nice appetizer but the roast meat was disappointing.

D. Seafood / Fish
11. Seafood Salad with Fresh Fruits
12. Crispy Soft Shell Crab with Salted Pepper
13. Sautéed Scallops with Celery in X.O. Sauce

Everyone like the seafood salad and we repeated our order for that.

14. Deep-fried Marble Goby Fish with Chef’s Special Sauce
15. Steamed Red Tilapia (Hong Kong-style or Steamed with Bean Crumbs)

Fish is probably everyones' favourite on the menu so we also repeated the order for the fried fish. Most of us preferred the deep fried fish than the steamed one.

E. Meat
16. Coffee Pork Ribs
17. Stir-fried Beef Cubes with Black Pepper Sauce

Both meat tasted too sweet for my liking.

18. Steamed Chicken with Fresh Ginseng and Wolfberries

Not nice, the chicken tasted bland.

F. Vegetables
19. Fried Crispy Beancurd Skin, served with Pancakes, Sweet Sauce and Spring Onions
20. Sautéed French Beans with Minced Pork
21. Young Bai Cai (Stir-fried with Garlic)

Every meals have to include vegetables to be completed so these are our choice of vegetables for the evening.

G. Soup
Never tried any from this section.

H. Rice / Noodles
22. Fried Teochew “Mee Sua”

This was nicely fried with good wok hei.

I. Desserts
23. Herbal Jelly served with Honey
24. Chilled Sago Cream with Honeydew
25. Black Glutinous Rice Cream with Coconut Milk

26. Chilled Almond Beancurd with Longan
27. Chocolate Ice Cream
28. Glutinous Dumpling with Sesame Fillings

All the desserts were very ordinary except the almond beancurb was slightly above average.
