Nanxiang Steamed Bun Restaurant @ Bugis

[Closed]
23th Dec 2010

The last visit to Nanxiang at Plaza Singapura was a pleasant one and left us with a $40 cash rebates voucher which expired by end Dec 2010. This gave us an excuse for a revisit. With family friends from Bangkok for a visit, we decided to bring them to Nanxiang at Bugis for dinner. However the quality of food was disappointing as compared to Plaza Singapura outlet. We ordered quite a few items and there were more misses than hits.

King Size Steamed Bun - S$6.80++

Still prefer the normal size steamed bun, the bun skin was pretty thick but the stock was rather tasty.

Crab Roe Steamed Bun - S$11.80++

More rich tasting than the crab meat steamed bun but I find the skin a bit thick.

Tofu with Century Egg - S$4.50++

Pretty ordinary.

Crab Roe Prawn Ball - S$2.60 each

One of their signature dish but didn't win us over too. Recycle oil was used to deep fry the prawn balls and was too much flour instead of prawn was used for the fillings.

Salted Egg Yolk Prawn - S$12.80++

This was nicely executed. The salted egg yolk batter lightly coated the prawn and deep fried till crisp. Very tasty.

Stir Fried Dou Miao - S$9.80++

Chicken Chop Fried Rice - S$8.50++

Both rice and chicken were bland tasting and lack of wok hei.

Shanghai Fried Noodle - S$7.80++

Not bad but some of us find it too ordinary and sweet tasting.

Chilled Sweetened Water Chestnut - S$3.30++

This was very light and refreshing.

Mango Pudding - S$3.80++

These were some of the dishes we ordered the last time too.

Drunken Chicken - S$6.80++ / Crab Meat Steamed Bun - S$9.00++ / Shanghai Vegetables Rice - S$7.00++ / Pumpkin Cake - S$3.60++
