Signed up for The King of Kong Bak Pau Makan Session at Westlake 西湖小吃 with 3 of my colleagues. Our first time attending such event. The food was good overall with more hits than misses but just a bit too heavy in seasonings and oil for some dishes if not will be perfect. However the theme for the makan session was Kong Bak Pau and Westlake's version of Kong Bak Pau definitely lives up to it's name - King! So far is one of the best I have tried!
Thank you Dr Leslie Tay! We had an enjoyable evening!
The sumptuous menu for the evening at S$25 per pax! Definitely value for money!
Sichuan Hot and Sour Soup - Full of flavour with the right amount hotness and sourness!
Guo Tie - Crispy skin and moist meaty filling who can resist.
Pau - Fluffy and soft bun. Larger than the usual ones available at the supermarkets.
Kong Bak Pau - The star of the day! Very very yummy! After trying, quite a few of us ordered for takeaways lol!
Kung Bao Chicken - A bit salty for me and if only it was served with rice, it will be great!
Yam Ring - not bad but again the saute stuffing was a tad too oily.
Butter Prawns - Never tried because I don't like prawn with shell.
Hotplate Tofu - Again a dish that needs rice. A bit salty for me too.
Sambal Long Bean - after the heavy and full of flavor dishes of the above, I wish this was just a plate of simple stir fry green to clear the palate. Anyway this was nicely done with good wok hei!
Black Pepper Crab - the version here is very different from the usual one. The black pepper was grounded to paste and a bit on the sweet side. Again, I find it salty too! Or was me only lol?
Hong Kong Fried Noodles - Nothing special. The noodles were overcooked and a tad too oily for our liking.
Red Bean Pancake - Finally came to the end of the dinner. Pancake was nice but we were just too full to eat anymore. This was really a very heavy dinner!
The kong bak pau takeaways all ready at the corner for pick up!
