Culina Enoteca

8th Nov 2009

A birthday celebration lunch at Dempsey Hill. Actually went to PS Cafe but the queue was so long that we decided to try other restaurant around Dempsey after a 20 mins wait. We drove upward and landed at Culina Enoteca (Inside Culina Quality Food & Beverage). A quiet and nice place to chill out on a lazy Sunday afternoon. A grocery, a butchery and a restaurant all under one roof.

Culina Enoteca serve quality and freshest food including wine from prestigious wineries. What surprise me was no GST and service charge but probably has been included in the menu. No wonder the service was quite lousy. H was quite irritated with the waitress who sounded quite rude when we asked question about the menu. Though later she sensed that H was not happy and tried to be more pleasant and friendly so after all not that bad. However, some of the items on the menu were not available but the waitress who took order was not updated. After taking our orders for awhile, then she came to inform us that this and that was not available. It's like a norm for them as H told me the last time was the same too when they were there.

Kobe Ribeye Steak (MBS 6)- S$49.90

MBS - referring to The Japanese marbling scale ranging from 1-12. Grade 6 & 7 Kobe beef is a more affordable alternative and the quality is still considerably high. Anyway, we were extremely satisfied with this which was grilled to medium rare perfection. It was so juicy and tasty even without any sauce, as good as the one I had at Kobe. Served with stew vegetables and baked potatoes. Sauce (only 2 choices - black pepper & shallots) need to order separately at S$4.00 per 40ml and additional side dishes (Sauteed mushroom/salad/fries etc) at S$6.00/portion. The sauce and side orders portion were huge so can be shared among 2 to 3 person.

Grilled Ocean Trout w/Vegetables - S$28.00

A healthier choice for H's mum.

Steak Sandwiches - S$24.00

With lettuce, tomatoes & mustard dressing. A simple steak and no frill sandwich. Not bad but the steak was little and bread too thick. Request for medium rare but tasted like medium well.

French Fries - S$6.00
Bread w/Olive oil & balsamic vinegar dip (FOC)

We ordered 2 side dishes, sauteed mushroom & salad. The waitress took the wrong order and gave us fries instead. Anyway we can't be bothered to complain because the fries were quite good, thick & crispy. The sauteed mushroom was really very good till I forgotten to take a picture of it. Too hungry... hahaha!

Baked Chocolate in Raspberry Puree w/Organic Vanilla Ice Cream and Oatmeal Crumbles - S$14.00

Portion was big, definitely have to be shared. A nice cold and warm dessert to complete the meal.

The baked chocolate was thick and creamy, the sourish raspberry puree balance up the chocolate sweetness and all complimented well with the cold vanilla ice cream. Almost similar to molten choc cake w/ice cream. Yum!

Cappuccino - S$5.50

A rather satisfying meal, definitely must end with a cup of nice coffee.
