Kim's Family Restaurant

23th Feb 2010

Kim's Family Restaurant - authentic Korean food at very reasonable pricing. One of the favourite Korean restaurant to many bloggers. Also, one of the most generous Korean restaurant in Singapore which served 8 to 13 side dishes (Banchan) that even include a whole fish. Been reading lots of rave reviews about them and finally I went to try during CNY on a weekday's evening.

Banchan Spread

A total of 13 side dishes were served to us the moment we settled at our table. There were vegetables, kimchi, pancake, meatballs, fish, salad etcs.

Spring Onion Pancake (Jeon) - S$10.00

Instead of the usual seafood pancake, we had the one with spring onion. This was a delight! Spring onions and seafood were pan fried till crisp coated with a very light egg and flour batter. The vinegar sauce go well with pancake. One of the best Korean pancake I had so far...

Spicy Stir Fried Pork (JeaYuk-Bukium) - S$17.00

Highly recommended by the waitress so we had one. The pork had a good smokey flavour and not very spicy but it was not thoroughly cooked the first time and we had it returned to recook it. Though it was nice and cooked the second serving but still didn't feel quite good after chewing on some raw pork.

Spicy Fried Octopus (Nakji-Bokum) - S$17.00

Rather similar to the spicy pork but the sauce was sweeter. Very good with rice.

Soft Bean Curd Stew (Sundubu-Tchigae) - S$11.00

A very nice comforting soup. Rich and flavourful infused with assorted seafood.

Spicy Codfish Soup (Daegu-Tang) - S$15.00

There were quite a few chunk of cod fish in the soup but some of us find it too fishy and the soup was not as tasty as the Soft beancurd stew.

Noodles in Chilled Broth (Mul-naengmyon) - S$10.00

Trying to be more adventurous so ordered the cold noodles to try as always seen in Korean drama. The noodle's texture was similar to rice vermicelli but the broth was very bland. Not too bad but still prefer Japanese soba.

Dolsot Bibimbap - S$10.00

Not bad and for S$10.00 only, really not much to complaint about.

Overall, is a pretty satisfying and value for money dinner and will definitely come back again to try the BBQ.
