Another birthday lunch treat for a colleague at Joo Hing located along the famous food street of Joo Chiat. This is a family run restaurant that serve authentic Cantonese style zi char dishes. Is one of the popular zi char place in the east and has been around for many years. My family used to dine there quite often on weekends in the past but I notice the food just don't taste as good as it used to be. We ordered quite a few dishes and total bill came up to about $110.00 for the 6 of us. Overall still a satisfying lunch with more hits than misses and most importantly the birthday girl liked their food. Happy Birthday Sandra!

Steamed Song Fish Head
This is quite fitting to be a signature dish as it was perfectly well done. The flavourful bean paste and the crispy lard complimented the fish very well.
Steamed Squids with Special Sauce
I always love to order this as it was steamed to perfection. The squid was juicy and sweet tasting.
Prawn Paste Chicken
Our all time favourite zi char dish.
Steamed Minced Pork with Salted Fish
This was a bit too oily for our liking. And there's lots of fat and starch in the pork.
Braised Tofu with Prawns
One of their signature dish too but was not very well executed as the sauce lacked flavours and too starchy for our liking. The tofu was cold inside and the prawn had fishy smell.
Bittergourd with Pork Ribs
This was pretty nice. Full of wok hei...
Omelette with Silver Fish
Look rather plain and homecooked but was surprisingly nice.
Sambal Tapioca Leaves
Not bad though the sambal was a bit sweet.
