Michelangelo's - My First Food Bloggers Dinner!

25 Aug 2010

Unbelievably I attended the Annual Food Blogger Dinner 2010 organised by Ivan from food.recentrunes.com at Michalangelo's located at Chip Bee Garden. I'm not an outspoken person so it's quite unusual for me to sign up for this kind of event especially so when I don't even know anyone at all. However, the menu looked too good to miss and there's even lucky draw prizes sponsored by Pantry Pursuits so I was there for good food and hopefully won a prize! Anyway, I'm glad I went though I was not the lucky ones but nice meeting with some of them especially Elaine from Divine Essential who sat right beside me. Many had already posted the event on their blogs so I don't have to elaborate much too. Generally the food was quite good except for the dessert which I did not appreciate.

Check out the following blogs for more detailed updates:

The dinner started off with ...

Homemade tomato & herb bread with 3 kind of dips (hummus, olive oil and balsamic vinegar)

Nicely toasted and seem to be very well received by all.

Starter

Crab meat cake with avocado top with mesclun salad, beetroot paint & balsamic reduction

My favourite course for the night. Rich tasting and bouncy in texture like a fishcake.

Pasta

Short tube pasta with chunks of tuna in homemade tomato sauce with capers, olives, chili, garlic, basil, white wine & rich fish broth

Many were surprised to see the chunky tuna tataki and I really enjoyed it but thought the pasta was a bit overcooked for me.

Main Course

Breaded veal scallopine pan fried in butter glace with veal jus, cherry tomato salsa & lemon Wedge

My choice for the main course. Not as impressive as the fish according to most of them. I find it tasted too buttery and heavy.

Or

Sea bream blanket with crispy brick phyllo on butternut pumpkin puree top with tomato salsa

Most of them gave thumb for this in term of taste and presentation.

Dessert

Pistachio Financier with Strawberry Salsa & Mint

This was more like a tea cake than a financier to me. A bit too sweet and dense for my liking but the strawberry salsa was quite refreshing.

Coffee/Tea to complete the dinner. To conclude, it's a good experience for me. Thanks Ivan for making an effort to organise this event and Pantry Pursuits for the lucky draw prizes.
