Japanese Curry Sloppy Joe

20 Mar 2011

When I saw this recipe over at Happy Home Baking, I knew I will be making it soon. True enough I cooked this few days later. I never try the real sloppy joe before but I do like this one very much with a Japanese twist! For those who like Japanese curry sauce, you will definitely heart this! I cooked the pork version as my aunt don't take beef. This sauce is good for baked pasta too!

Last homecooked lunch for Year 2010

31st Dec 2010

On the last day of the year 2010, I cooked a simple and delicious lunch for my family. Japanese curry is probably one of the easiest dish on earth to prepare and yet it can taste like restaurant's standard. Served it with good quality Japanese rice, definitely is a comfort dish to me. Mine is the quick and simple version as I used sliced saute beef instead of beef cubes, so don't need to stew it till the beef tender.

Japanese beef curry with rice

Ingredients: (Serve 4)
1 box (100g) Golden Curry sauce mix - hot
400g Sliced Beef (seasoned with some meat tenderiser)
2 nos Carrots (sliced thickly)
1 no Yellow Onion (slice into wedges)
2 tbsp Frozen Green Peas
2 Cups of Stocks/Water

Method:
1. In a large skillet, heat up 2 tbsp of olive oil and stir fry onions and carrots till fragrant. Add stock/water and bring to boil for 10-15min till carrot is cooked.
2. Break the curry paste into small cubes and add in.
3. Stir well and add in beef and green peas. Cooked for awhile about 5 mins till cooked.
4. Serve it with warm Japanese rice.

* Can add vegetables like celery and potatoes, used chicken instead of beef. Or you can cook a vegetables curry served it with deep fried chicken chops/nugget and fish fillet etc.

Sukiyaki Hotpot

Sunday - 26 Oct 2008
This long weekend was a busy holidays for me, I had spent 2 days doing grooming for my dogs and also need to bake a cake for my brother's BD. On days like these, too tired to go out for dinner, we will do some real simple cooking. So hotpot is the best solution, we love these very much as its easy to make, delicious and is satisfying.

Kikoman Sukiyaki Sauce - An easy to use sauce to make sukiyaki hotpot. This can be found in all major supermarkets.

Sukiyaki hotpot - Ingredients:
1. Very thinly sliced pork (Shabu Shabu)
2. Leek
3. Chinese cabbage
4. Golden mushroom
5. Spring onion
6. Japanese bean vermicelli (see pic below)
7. Tofu (Usually I omit as my aunt don't take tofu)
8. Any other ingredients you want to use (I like to add fish maw)
9. Stock (to add more flavour instead of using plain water)

Methods:
1. Assemble all ingredients into the pot except the meat.
2. Add stock and sauce, bring to boil.
(if using stock, do not add too much sukiyaki sauce, it will be too salty)

Get this from all major supermarkets at the japanese products section.
