Sakae Sushi @ Novena Square 2

11th Dec 09

It's TGIF! I was supposed to go Orchard to do my X'mas shopping and was held up by the massive traffic jam at Thomson area. In the end I decided to alight at Novena Sq instead. I'm craving for sushi again! Since I'm alone, I'm trying to look for a place that was not so crowded and decided to have Sakae Sushi as most of the dinner crowd had cleared. Sakae Sushi, one of the Japanese chain restaurants in Singapore that serve affordable sushi & sashimi. These were what I had...

Unagi Chawanmushi - S$2.29++

Very smooth and silky egg custard that was lightly season with dashi stock & top with 2 slices of Unagi. Nice!

Hana Maki - S$5.59++

This is one of my all time favourite probably because I like the mayonnaise. Sometimes, you will get salmon belly instead which was even more shiok.

Salmon Mentai - S$5.59++

Another one of my fav - Sushi rice top with salmon and a layer creamy cod roe which was slightly grilled by using a blow touch.

Kajiki Sashimi - S$5.59

When I just learnt to appreciate sashimi, I only take salmon. Now I like all sort of sashimi and one of them is Kajiki. Smooth and creamy in taste with firm texture.

Hi Wen,

I made the banana cake yesterday. As I am using Kenwood major, I try not to overwhisk. I whisk the egg ang sugar mixture for about 5 mins.

My cake turn out not as crumbly as before. But I still cannot get the fine texture like yours. My cake turn out to be wet too. Did you weigh the oil with scale or measuring cup.

Merry Christmas to you and a Happy New Year ahead.

Hi Jean,

Merry Christmas & A Happy 2010 to you too!

I weigh the oil. What type of banana you used? Usually I used those from Philiphines instead of the local ones. Or the cake was underbaked...

Hi Wen,

I use local banana for this cake. I think it is causing the moisture.

I will try again with Philiphines banana.

Regards
