Pierre Hermé - Best Macaron

Pierre Hermé - very popular in Paris and even have to queue to buy it according to my brother. This is the best macaron that I ever tasted! Simply love the assorted colours and flavours! The textures are great, crisp & chewy yet not too thick & hard like cookie. Very light and not overly sweet too! It's so addictive and I can easily finish 2-3 at one go.

Laduree's Macaron @ Paris

Weeks ago my brother delighted me with 2 boxes of macarons from Paris again when he came back from his recent trip in May 2010. The last time was from Paul's and this round was Laduree, a pâtissier in Paris that sell one the best macaron. And the other one was from the famous Pierre Herme which will be on my next post. Both are very nice and I can't really remember which flavours I tried. Laduree macarons are more authentic, offer more of the basic flavours where Pierre Herme's are more exotic and daring in creating new flavours. Laduree's macaron was sweeter and the shell crispier than Pierre Herme.

Takashimaya Food Hall

3rd May 2010

These are some of my favourite small bites stalls in Takashimaya Food Hall which can be found in many other shopping centres in Singapore too. I was there with ST for some products talk and we thought of grabbing some quick bites at the food hall to settle our dinner before the talk. Each of us bought 2 items to share and we ended up with all Japanese food.

Hong Kong Street Chun Tat Kee

2nd May 2010

A zi char coffee shop along Balestier Road that I always wanted to try as it's usually crowded whenever I passed by. We had our dinner there on a Sunday evening after visiting Aunt Peggy at TTS. The food was only average but very reasonably priced and waiting time was short though it was crowded.

Fish Beehoon

The soup was a bit bland for us but the fish was very fresh.

Assam Fish

Totally different from what we expected. The sauce was too starchy and tasted more liked instant Thai chilli sauce than assam. Don't understand why so many tables ordered this? Just didn't appeal to us.

Pork Ribs with Bittergourd

At least this was quite good. The sauce was tasty, the pork ribs were tender and full of flavour.

Cookies Workshop By Audrey Tan

2nd May 2010

Registered for this Cookies workshop by Audrey Tan at Shermay's but due to work commitment got to give it a miss. Thankfully, K my baking friend attended on my behalf. Thank you so much for the help K, if not for you I would have miss out all these yummy cookies and thanks for the help and all these wonderful photos. Wish to try out some of these recipes but recently the weather is so terrible that I really don't feel like doing anything at home. Just want to hide in my air-con room watching K-drama whenever I'm at home.

Prive Bakery Cafe

1st May 2010
(Finally manage to complete my Apr 2010 backlogs. May is coming to an end and I'm just starting my 1st May's post!)

Waking up early on Labour day just to have breakfast at Prive, located at Marina Keppel Bay. Is also one of the cafe in Singapore that serve all day breakfast menu. Brunch seem to be a trend in Singapore. We were surprised that the cafe were pretty packed already at 9am so we were not the only early riser...lol! Prive Baking Cafe is a wonderful al fresco dining place to relax and chill out with friends and family on weekends and holidays. For a moment, I felt like I was somewhere overseas. Probably for now nobody will want to dine outdoor with this kind of super humid & hot weather. If the weather starts to cool down I will definitely wish to go again for the ambiance and to try the dessert though not for the food.

There were many good reviews about them so we went with much expectation. I was disappointed to say that the food and service were not as expected. The wait for the food was too long. Our orders were taken at 9.15am but drinks were only served half an hour later. Then follow by another long wait for the food which came after several complaints. We waited more than 1 hour for the food though the waitress was apologetic. For the food, let the pictures speak for itself...

Egg Benedict - S$14.50++

Half of an English muffin, topped with bacon, poached eggs, and hollandaise sauce served with some salad. Is this how Egg Benedict should look like and taste like? Somehow it doesn't look quite right to me even though was my first encounter with EB as the hollandaise sauce was liked a baked layer of cheese instead of saucy and it actually tasted quite cheesy.

The muffin and bacon was too dry for my liking but at least the poached egg was nicely done that manage to salvage the whole dish.

Ultimate Breakfast - S$17.00++

Everything on this plate was ultimate but was ultimately dry and cold except for the baked bean. The sunny side up was overdone, the toast was cold, the bacon was over fried though very crispy and even the saute mushroom was dry too.

Cafe Latte & TWD French Earl Grey Tea - S$4.80++ ea

Looking at all those yachts while sipping our coffee and tea, we were wondering how much to rent one to go out to the sea one day with family and some close friends. If it is affordable that will be terrific. Dreamzzz....lol!

Valerie's Tofu Cheesecake Workshop

29th Apr 2010

Attended this workshop at The Serangoon CC by Valerie. Two non baked desserts - A Japanese style light cheesecake using silken tofu and mango pudding with dried mango added. The tofu cheesecake texture was almost similar to the one served at Sun with Moon Japanese Dining but Val's version of the biscuit base was not as crisp.

Sakae Sushi (Toa Payoh)

28th Apr 2010

A late night dinner at Sakae Toa Payoh after visiting Aunt Peggy at TTS. Had a S$20 Sakae voucher expiring on 30th to clear off so suggested to go Sakae for dinner with my family.

Sakae Chawanmushi - S$1.99++

Cousin's all time favourite.

Soft Shell Crab Agemono - S$7.99++

Too oily for our liking.

Unagi Tama Makimono - S$5.99++

Anything with eel is always nice to me.

Spicy Salmon Temaki - S$1.99++

Temaki with chinese lettuce? A bit weird but tasted quite nice and refreshing.

Salmon Mentai - S$5.99++

One of my favourite sushi at Sakae.

Butterfly Mentai Agemono - S$5.99++

Breaded prawn with mentai. Very rich and a bit oily for my palate.

Kizami Unagi Gunkan Sushi - S$1.99++

This was very nice and tasty.

Sakana Trio Gunkan Sushi - S$3.99++

Tuna with mango, swordfish with avacado and salmon with cucumber.

Salmon kabuto Yakimono - S$7.99++

Over grilled and too dry.

Maguro Tataki Salad - S$9.99++

Totally different from the menu. The tuna tataki was not seared properly. The tuna sashimi tasted bland and not fresh.

Black Pepper Chicken Donburi - S$10.99++

Aunt don't really like sushi so this was ordered for her. I tried some and thought that it was quite nice. The black pepper chicken was tasty and filled with wok hei.

Tampopo (Takashimaya)

26th April 2010

I always like Tampopo's chiffon cake but never dine at the restaurant before. That evening, I was at Takashimaya with ST, she wanted to have ramen so I suggested to go Tampopo since both of us never try before. Recently there's a poll in HGW for Best Ramen in Singapore and they are being voted too. We tried 2 of the Chef's recommendation ramen, shared a potato croquette and a scoop cake. The service was very good and orders were served pretty fast too. Both of us enjoyed the dinner very much.

Tonkatsu Ramen - S$15.80++

There are so many types of ramen on the menu and I'm glad I make a right choice. I love the way it was served, the tonkatsu was separated from the ramen to let us enjoyed the best of both world.

The broth was was so rich and flavourful with a hint of spiciness. Love the ramen texture too, it was smooth and not too thick.

They served pretty good tonkatsu.

Black Pig Shabu Ramen - S$13.80++

This was voted one of the top 10 ramen in Singapore. ST's choice and she loved it too. Especially the pork bone soup was good. I tried some but I find it a bit porky.

The Kyushu noodle was smooth and thin that goes so well with the soup.

Wagyu Potato Croquette - S$5.80++

A nicely done potato croquette but can't realy taste any wagyu beef in it.

Scoop Cake - S$5.00++

This cake was being raved by so many dessert lovers and I always wonder why as it looked so ordinary. After trying it, I understand why... Everything about this cake was so light and light. Simply can't stop after first bite. It just cake and cream with some fruits, so simple and yet so yummy.

Cheese & Green Tea Chiffon Cakes

After our shopping at Takashimaya, we went back to buy some chiffon cakes home.
