Xian Pin Guo Steamboat

[Closed]
Please pardon me for missing in action recently, will be picking up soon hopefully... This month hits the lowest posts record in my 3 years of blogging life. Yes pretty tied up at work and also took 2 short trips this month. Let me starts the blogging bug again with this post.

Visited this steamboat joint in July 2011 with family to celebrate my Uncle's birthday. An ala carte buffet steamboat restaurant located at Joo Chiat Road. Quite value for money at:

Mon to Thu - $16.80++/adult, $8.80++/child
Fri-Sun, Eve & on PH - $18.80++/adult, $8.80++/child

The buffet includes some cooked food and dessert so with this kind of pricing, really nothing much to complain plus the steamboat items are mostly very fresh. We chose tom yum and chicken soup which I preferred the latter as the tom yum was a bit too sweet tasting for my liking.

Xian De Lai @ Nex

[Closed]
11 Jan 2011 Xian De Lai - a popular steamboat buffet restaurant located at Liang Seah Street has opened a new branch in Nex, serving specialty hotpot too. Passed by this restaurant many times and was always attracted by the beautiful porcelain hotpot holder. With a colleague after work, went to try it sometimes ago.

There are 2 choices available, either hotpot set meal or ala carte hotpot buffet. As we did not wish to indulge so we went for the set only.

Hotpot set - S$18.90 / pax
Ala Carte buffet - S$25.90 / pax

Our choice of soup - Spicy Tom Yum & Cabbage Duck Soup

The soup was quite flavourful. We preferred the spicy one.

A variety of condiments & sauces available at the self service counter.

These were the items in each of the set we ordered.
For set meal, we can choose 2 items from each of the 4 catergories which made up of meat, seafood, vegetables & others.

For buffet, there is no limitation as you can have everything on the menu.

Fat Fish Thai Steamboat Restaurant

[Closed]
27th Aug 2010

The birthday girl suggested to have dinner at Fat Fish, a Thai steamboat restaurant almost similar to Coca but much cheaper yet quality as good. I was quite impressed as there is such a gem hiding up the hill in Sembawang. Service is good and attentive, ambiance is cosy and clean. Quaity of food is very fresh and good too. The menu offered for ala-carte buffet are not many but good enough for a sumptuous steamboat where all the quality stuffs are included. They also serve Thai stir fry dishes at rather reasonable pricing. Definitely going to bring my family back to try.

Thai Steamboat Ala-Carte Buffet

Weekday(Mon-Thurs exclude Eve & PH)
Adult - $ 18.80+ Child - $ 9.80+

Weekend (Friday-Sunday, Eve & PH)
Adult - $ 22.80+ Child - $ 9.80+

There 2 choices of stock to choose from, chicken & tom yum. Both are equally nice but we prefer the tom yum, very appetizing and flavourful.

All the shabu shabu meats were sliced thinly. Other than the fresh meat & seafood, the fuzhou ball, salmon cheese stick, meat balls & dumplings were all quite nice too. I'm glad to see Tang O & golden mushroom in the menu too which buffet usually don't include as they are more costly.

JuJu Hokkaido Hotpot

20 Jun 2010

Celebrated Father's Day and my younger brother's birthday together at JuJu. A Japanese hotpot restaurant under the same group as Tao's Restaurant. We had a rather pleasant dining experience at Tao's months ago so wish to check out JuJu too.

At JuJu, everything are individually served from starter to dessert and each has it's own hotpot. If going in a group can order different types of main to share to create a variety. The presentation of main is very impressive, the meat/fish are nicely plated with all the vegetables. Due to it's exaggerating presentation, the table seem to be too small and cramp to accommodate the food especially if going in a group more than 4. Service is as expected and well known to be very good. Overall the food is quite fresh for steamboat but a bit too expensive for the limited variety especially so on Father's day where we paid additional $10 each so total per pax was about $46.85 nett. Total for 7 was about $328, really not very worth it as for that amount we can get a better steamboat at JPOT. If you wish to try out go for the lunch set instead, more value for money.

Menu
Lunch - 6 Course Set Meal ($19.80++ per person)
Dinner - 7 Course Set Meal ($29.80++ per person )
Additional $10 surcharge on Father's Day so is $39.80++ per person for dinner

1. Starter
Semi-Boiled Golden Egg with House Starters

The egg was very flavourful.

2. Main
There are 9 choices of main to choose from. All were very fresh and we love the presentation. Among them our favourite will be the beef, pork & fish head. I think the beef set is the most value for the money as compared to the rest.

Premium Slices of Prime Beef

Tasty Fish Head

Fresh Pacific Ocean Platter

Juicy Pork Slices

Chicken and Pork Combo

3. Soup
Creamy “Kun Bo” Soup

Other choices: Ju Ju’s Hokkaido “Kun Bo” Clear Soup & Hot and Spicy Soup
Among the 3 types of soup, my family preferred the clear "kun bo" soup. The creamy soup is too milky for my liking and the spicy soup too artificial.

4. Assorted Hand-made Rainbow Dumplings (Dinner)

Not very nice can do without it. It's just a filler to me.

5. Side Dish
Vermicelli / Soba

Other choices: White Rice & Rice Stick.

6. Ice Plum Vinegar
No photo - Refreshing drink to cool down the heat after the steamboat

7. Desserts
Mango Sago
Glutinous Purple Rice topped with Vanilla Ice Cream
Honeydew & Watermelon Ice

Very simple and refreshing.

Birthday cake - Green tea cake from Breadtalk
Chocolate Mousse - Complimentary from JuJu

JPOT - Hotpot Singapore Style

29th Jan 2010

Just 2 weeks before CNY, we had a very good and enjoyable steamboat dinner at JPOT on me. A new dining concept by Jumbo Seafood that was highly recommended by foodies & media since it started in 2009. One of the best steamboat restaurant I been to in Singapore so far. Though we had to pay a little bit more but they offered premium and quality fresh ingredients with flavourful broth. Worth trying.

It's ala-carte style but they do have various type of set to choose from. I ordered one of the steamboat set for 4 with some other additional items. After a 10% discount with Citibank cc, total bill was about S$200 for the 5 of us. Approx. S$40/pax. Service is rather fine and ambiance is cosy too. Definitely will return again to try the BKT & porridge soup base.

Dinner Set F S$138.00++ for 4 persons

*Choice of soup: JPOT superior broth & Tom Yum Soup

They offer a wide variety of soup base. Other than the 2 we had chosen, they have soup base like Bak Kut Teh, Herbal, Laksa, Silky porridge & Vegetarian. Both were good especially the tom yum, very rich, appetizing and quite spicy too.
