Tong Chiang Claypot Rice

26th Dec 2010

We discovered a nice place for claypot rice. A corner coffee shop at the junction of Serangoon Road and Lavender Street. They specialised in claypot rice and Hakka cuisine. Pricing was rather reasonable and portion was generous too. We had a large claypot for the 5 of us and some side dishes. The claypot rice was nice, cooked to the right texture with good smokey flavour. However the side dishes were not that impressive just ordinary but the claypot rice definitely worth a return.

Chicken Claypot Rice with Sausage & Salted Fish - S$22 (L) (S$6/S$11/S$16.50)

The large size claypot was meant for 4 persons but was more than enough to serve 5-6 persons.

Steamed Fishhead with Spicy Bean Sauce - S$13.00

The sauce was too sweet for our liking.

Pig's Intestine with Pineapple - S$8.00

This is a Hakka dish. You either like it or hate it. Definitely not my cup of tea.

Mai-Cai with Taro-curd - S$10.00

We love mai-cai and the sauce was tasty.

Mixed Pork Soup - S$5.00

They also sell bak kut teh and the mixed pork soup was peppery good too.
