The Sushi Bar

Finally went to try the very much rave about The Sushi Bar at Far East Plaza! We queued for about an hour. Definitely worth queuing for it! Let's my food pictures speak for itself even though it was just taken by iphone 5! Yet all looks so good and fresh! Everything we tried that evening are nice! They served quality and value for money Japanese food especially sashimi and sushi! If only don't have to queue, I will visit more often.

The outstanding Chirashi don (sashimi ricebowl) comes with real thick cut sashimi! For about $25, you get 3 slices each of salmon, tuna, swordfish, yellowtail and scallop with 2 slices each of aburi salmon belly and tamago! And a spoonful of salmon roe! All over a very thin layer of sushi rice! This is seriously so unforgetable! lol!

Tsuru-Koshi Udon

I was hungry after running some errands at Takashimaya, so went to the Food Hall for a quick fix dinner at Tsuru-koshi. A cosy place that specialised in udon at affordable prices, suitable for those who need to dine alone.

Ichiban Sushi @ Toa Payoh HDB Hub

A lunch date with a very close colleague of mine on a Saturday afternoon after work. Whenever we dine together, we always end up having Japanese food. Had gone to Sakae sushi with her numerous times at Toa Payoh so for a change we tried Ichiban Sushi at Toa Payoh Hub. Ichiban Sushi is also a Japanese chain restaurants similar to Sakae Sushi. The branch at Toa Payoh is always full house and at times even need to queue to get in. The food quality was generallyl better than Sakae.

My all time favourite ~ Salmon Belly! It just melt in my mouth! Yum!

Groupon's Deal - Sakae Sushi

Buying Groupon's deal can be quite addictive... everytime I saw a deal on restaurant, I'm just so tempted by it to buy and buy. Before you know, you may have spend hundreds on it. Bought 4 of this Sakae deal in July and finished it off in 2 visits.

Ootoya @ Orchard Central

18 Mar 2011

I finally get to try Ootoya with Hwee on a weekday dinner date and we were so lucky to get a table without queuing at 6.30pm. Ootoya serving authentic and affordable home cooked style Japanese food. This restaurant is very much raved about since it opened it's 1st Singapore branch in Orchard Central. Yes the food is good, indeed very comfortingly good! I even love the plain Japanese rice, the texture was so good and really taste liked what I had in Japan...!

Mimoza Salad - S$7.00++

We shared a salad for the starter. Very fresh and appetising!

27 Jan 2011

After another shopping spree at Ion for CNY clothings with S, went to Itaco for a late dinner. Even at 9pm, the restaurant was still crowded. Chikuwa Tei

9th Nov 2010

After all the early birthday celebrations with friends and colleagues, on the actual day is always left for my family. Celebrated my birthday with family at Chikuwa Tei and this year so glad that my dad joined us for dinner too.

Read so many rave reviews about the Chef who previously was at Wasabi Tei, now has it's own restaurant. Chikuwa Tei located at Mohd Sultan, walking distance from Liang Court. The interior is simple and neat with a few friendly service staffs. They offered quite a selection of set meal that price ranges from S$12 - S$30 plus. Overall the food is pretty average, not as good as I expect. A bit over-rated but I don't mind coming back for the Chirashi.

Sashimi (28pcs) - S$95

Fresh especially the Otoro was really good!

Lotus Root & Mushroom Stew - complimentary

I didn't like it but that was just me. The rest of them commented it was nice!

Chawanmushi

Choking with ingredients, too much till you can't really taste the smoothness of the egg custard.

BBQ Squid

A bit too dry for our liking.

Chirashi

Chikuwa Tei's famous and signature Chirashi! Finally get to try it and indeed it does live up to my expectation. Generous thick cut sashimi, definitely worth coming back for this again. However the sushi rice was not that great, too loose and not very sticky.

Grilled Hamachi

Fresh and nicely grilled!

Grilled Black Cod Fish

Not bad too, quite a thick cut.

Tempura

Pretty ordinary.

Cold Soba

The soba texture was good according to my brother and he liked it.

Cod Fish & Vegetables Claypot

This was one of the popular item too. The stock was nice, light and flavourful with 4-5 slices of cod fish and lots of vegetables.

Stir Fried Teriyaki Beef

Beef was not overcooked, still tender but too much garlic that left a bitter aftertaste.

Black Sesame & Green Tea

Nice especially the black sesame flavour. Quite pricey at S$5/scoop for such a small portion.

Complimentary Watermelon

Thank you brother for the birthday dinner treat and angbao!

My friends dropped by my place for tea and chit-chat after we were back from dinner. They bought a Mango Cheese Cake from Rive Gauche for me.

Mango Cheese Cake @ Rive Gauche Patisserie

Quite light and refreshing, more mousse liked than cheesy and the crispy biscuit base was a delight!

Itacho Sushi

14th Sep 2010

Had an enjoyable sushi lunch at Itacho Sushi. Itacho Sushi is a popular Japanese sushi chain originated from Hong Kong which has more than 10 branches over there and several affiliated branches in Japan. Last year, they opened their first Singapore branch in Ion Orchard. Read many rave reviews about them and finally I made a trip down on a weekday afternoon to try which I happened to be on leave. We got seated easily without waiting as it was already passed peak lunch hour.

The sushi menu is interesting offers a large range of sushi and sashimi. Some special items like wagyu beef, jumbo scallop, sea eel, cod liver and fatty tuna which are usually available in upscale Japanese restaurant are avaliable here with much affordable price. Not to forget to mention the grilled salmon with soy sauce sushi is on promotion, only at $0.80 per pc so unbelievable cheap! It was grilled to perfection and it's literally melted in your mouth. I'm already planning for a revisit soon.

Roasted Fatty Tuna - S$7.20++

This was heavenly! Now I know why so many people are crazy for fatty tuna.

Japanese Flounder - S$2.70++

Not bad, the fish was firm and sweet tasting.

Roasted Japanese Jack Mackerel - S$2.70++

This was one of the popular item but I find it a bit dry.

Salmon with Soy Sauce - S$0.80++

This was a must try and very popular. Limited supply each day so sometimes you may not get to try it.

Softshell Crab Hand Roll - S$4.50++

Pretty good too.

Supreme Sea Eel - S$6.00++

Full slab of sea eel serve on a sushi rice. Quite shiok but the seasoning was a bit too sweet.

Back Pepper Salmon Belly - S$3.80++

I love salmon belly no matter how it was done.

Clear Soup with Yellow Tail Head - S$6.00++

The soup was nice too, very sweet tasting.
