5 recipes to celebrate a belated Easter!

Happy Belated Easter Day! Few days ago I was invited by Cheah from No-Frills Recipe and Edith from Precious Moments to a Easter Party! I was required to suggest 5 to 10 recipes and upload the photos with their respective links. Follow by tagging 10 bloggers to do the same. I love to join in the fun too by just coming up with the menu and not tagging since it's already past Easter. I spend sometimes to look through my past bakes and cooks, these are the 5 items that I like to prepare for the party. It's been awhile since I last made them and really craving for it ....

Easter April 2011 $20 Budget Meal - Easy Hot & Spicy Meal

To whip up a nice hot and spicy meal is no longer a difficult chore nowadays with so many ready paste available in the market. I remembered my grandma used to spend a lot of times preparing rempah (chilli paste). Even my aunt who's cook very well also find it tedious to do so. So usually I will buy the rempah from the wet market where some of the stalls sell homemade type. Am submitting this easy hot and spicy menu to [Easter April 2011 $20 Budget Meal] hosted by Ellena of Cuisine Paradise.

Condensed Milk Pound Cake

24 Mar 2011

I wanted to finish off the condensed milk lying in my fridge so decided to give this recipe a go. Bookmarked this recipe sometimes ago from Bisous a toi. Thanks Rima for sharing such an easy and good pound cake recipe. What attracted me to this recipe was not only it was highly recommended but also the method. This recipe added eggs at the last stage which I have not tried before. I was wondering by doing so... does it contribute to the fine and dense texture? Anyway this was very well received by my family and colleagues.

The cake was nice! Milky, fine crumbs, moist & surprisingly not too sweet!

Seah's Seafood Hotpot Soup

13 Mar 2011

An impromptu hotpot dinner at home on Sunday. Usually Sunday is a dine out day with my uncle's family but there's a Sunday my Aunt Peggy was not feeling well so the routine dinner appointment was cancelled. I was more than happy as we can whip up something simple at home instead...I always like homecooking.

Yi Jia South Village Seafood Restaurant - Revisit

6 Mar 2011

Sunday dinner at a popular Zi Char near home. My family like their Fishhead steamboat but that evening the steamboat wasn't as good as before. The soup lacked of flavour and richness but the other dishes we ordered were quite nice.

Emperor Chicken

This was good! Rich, herby & winey...

Sicilian Orange Cake & Another Award

23 Mar 2011

This is a very delicious orange cake, very soft, light, crumbly, flavourful and buttery! Highly recommended by Jess. I tried out the recipe right away the next day after seeing her post. It's so nice that my colleague asked me to bake one for her. So I already baked this twice within a month. Definitely is a keeper. Thanks Jess for sharing!

Porridge Buffet @ Quality Cafe - Revisit

27 Feb 2011

It's been awhile since I last dined at Quality Cafe for it's Porridge buffet which is my aunt's fav! My recent visit was not a good one, price increase and the spread not as interesting but still forever crowded!  The buffet mainly made up of 3 sections - Porridge dishes, Asian delight & Dessert.

A variety of sides dishes ...

Steamed chicken and braised duck were more outstanding, the rest were just so so only.

Ah Loy Thai - Revisit

25 Feb 2011

Ah Loy Thai is always crowded anytime of the day and any day of the week. They are very popular for it's cheap and good authentic Thai fares. This is always one of my family favourite Thai Restaurant! My recent revisit was as good as ever and glad to know that they are now open on Sunday too. Total bill for 5 was about S$70.00, no GST & service charge.
Seafood Tom Yum Soup

Sing Ning Ji

22 Feb 2011

A new find in my neighbourhood. A cafe serving homestyle Dongbei & Sichuan cuisine at very reasonable pricing. The menu is pretty interesting and extensive too, from cold dishes, handmade noodles/lamien/dimsums, dumplings to stir fry dishes etcs. I tried their Beef Knife Shave noodles a week ago and find it quite nice. So I recommended to Sharon and went back to try their other dishes with her.

Steamed Buns - $$3.80

Very rustic steamed bun. Definitely can't compare this to those from restaurant. The skin was quite thick and the filling was not very soupy too but the taste was fine. Anyway it was really cheap.

Raspberry Cheesecake Slice

Love the flavour and texture of this cheesecake! It's a wonderful recipe adapted from My Kitchen Snippets. Actually wanted to submit this to Fruity March but decided to hold it. I just had a feeling that maybe "Cheese" will be next... and bingo I'm right! I will be submitting this to Aspiring Bakers #6: Say Cheese! (April 2011) hosted by Jean from Noms I Must.

Rich, Creamy & Refreshing...

Soup Broth Asia

8 Feb 2011

Soup Broth Asia located at Raffles City is under the same management as The Soup Spoon but specialised in Asian Soup where the later in Western soup. At Soup Broth Asia, all the soup are simmered for at least 8 hours and all are prepared naturally with no MSG and artifical flavouring. I always wanted to check out this place since it opened last year and finally got an opportunity when H asked me out for dinner at Raffles City. Of course I suggested to try Soup Broth Asia for some comfort food instead of going for our usual Japanese and Western cuisine.

There are 12 types of soup on the menu, prices range from S$7.20 to $10.20. Each soup comes with complimentary rice but there are Fried rice and Yam rice as an alternative with an additional S$1.00 charge. To make a more complete meal, just need to top up another S$3.80 for 2 side dishes or S$4.80 for 3 dishes to have a set meal that comes with drink. The sides dishes include appetizers, meat and vegetables dishes. Definitely there are somethings that you will like.

Fujian Fish Stew - S$9.20

H had this and she liked it. The soup was very flavourful and sweet tasting!

Back to The Paramount Restaurant again...

30 Jan 2011

My Aunt Peggy just didn't want to waste the $50 Tunglok voucher away so we were back to The Paramount Restaurant again one day before the voucher expired...lol! This time round we had dinner. We ordered a few dishes to make up S$100 in order to use the voucher. We enjoyed all the dishes we ordered, with the S$50discount we only need to pay around S$70. Not too bad, with nice ambiance and attentive services, we had a good dinner that evening.

Itaco Sushi - Revisit

27 Jan 2011

After another shopping spree at Ion for CNY clothings with S, went to Itaco for a late dinner. Even at 9pm, the restaurant was still crowded. I love the sushi here, better quality than those from sushi chains like Sakae & Sushi Tei. S was the first time trying and I'm glad she liked my recommendation. We spend about S$55.00 including taxes for 2, no charges for green tea. Here's what we had...

Roasted Salmon Roll - S$3.50++

Fatty Tuna with Spring Onion Maki - S$7.00++

Scallop Sushi - S$4.00++

Xing Long Guang Shi Xiao Shi

23 Jan 2011

Have any of you eaten at Food Centre zi char stall? The food can be real value for money compared to those from the coffee shop. I knew a few good one around and recently I discovered another nice one located at Ang Mo Kio Ave 1. We actually intended to have Teochew porridge but the stall only opens at 6.45 pm! We didn't want to waste our time waiting as it was only 6pm when we were there so we decided to try this zi char stall which is located in the same Food Centre.

Claypot fishhead

Frog leg with ginger and spring onion

Pork ribs stew

Stir fry ngai bai

We enjoyed all the dishes except for the pork ribs. Total bill for 5 people was about $40 plus, quite reasonable right!
